COLOMBO (News1st): A special quasi-judicial commission would mete out punishments recommended by the presidential commission on political victimization, education minister Prof. G.L. Peiris has said. "Attorney General's Department officers had been summoned to the official residence of the Prime Minister at Temple Trees (under the previous government)," Peiris told reporters on Monday. "They were pressurized to file cases against certain individuals". He pointed out that a commission led by justice Upali Abeyratne was appointed to investigate incidents of political victimization. They have submitted their recommendations outlining the individuals who had committed offences. Therefore, a special quasi-judicial commission must be established to mete out punishments," Peiris noted.
