SLFP appoints committee to submit proposals for new constitution

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Sri Lanka Freedom Party has appointed a committee based on a decision reached by the party's Central Committee, to submit proposals to the committee appointed to prepare a new constitution, party sources said on Wednesday (Feb. 03). The nine-member new SLFP committee is headed by Senior Vice-President of the SLFP, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva. State Ministers Dayasiri Jayasekara, Duminda Dissanayake, MP Sarathi Dushman, Prof. Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa, President Counsel Faizer Mustapha, Former MP Lakshman Wasantha Perera, Attorneys-at-Law Sanjeewa Gamage and Keerthi Udawatta are the other members of the SLFP committee. The committee will conduct an in-depth study with regard to the proposals that should be considered when preparing a new constitution and submit its findings to the committee appointed to draft the new constitution. Discussions will be held next week with President’s Counsel Romesh de Silva, who heads the committee appointed to draft the new constitution, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party further added.
