Eight deaths due to fatal road accidents: Police

COLOMBO (News 1st): Eight deaths were reported due to fatal motor traffic accidents in a 24-hour window that ended on Saturday morning (Jan. 30). Upon analysing the accident report, Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said the majority of victims are riders and passengers of three-wheelers, motorcycles and pedestrians. "We need to ensure the road safety, and the Police are conducting massive operations in respect of motor traffic law," the Deputy Police Chief stressed. DIG Ajith Rohana sternly advised motorists to follow traffic rules, regulations, traffic signs and obey the instructions given by traffic police officers. "Don't drive with excessive speed, avoid neglectful driving and drunk driving. We need your support and cooperation to ensure road safety," the Deputy Police Chief reiterated.
