1185 people with outstanding warrants arrested

Colombo (News 1st);  3520 people including 1185 with outstanding warrants & 830 drunk drivers were arrested in a special island-wide operation, said Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana.

The three-hour long operation across all police areas in the country started at 11:00 PM on Saturday (23), he added. 119 people arrested in the operation were those wanted for various criminal offenses and were absconding authorities for a prolonged period. 503 people were arrested on suspicion for various crimes, said the Police Spokesperson. 138 people were arrested for heroin possession and 177 people were arrested for cannabis possession while another 32 people were arrested for the possession of synthetic drugs. Further, 385 people were arrested for committing offenses as per the provisions of the Excise Ordinance.
