Outdated laws must be amended : Prasanna

COLOMBO (News1st): State officials must pay attention to amend outdated laws instead of passing the responsibility to other units, tourism minister Prasanna Ranatunga has said. He had made these remarks during a meeting in the Ratnapura district, a statement by the presidential task force on economic revival and poverty eradication read. The minister had pointed out that a committee comprising representatives of the wildlife and forest department to identify the laws that need to be amended. During the meeting, the minister had received complaints that the wildlife and forest department have obstructed "eco-friendly" developments in the area, according to the statement. The statement added that a 46-kilometre long electric fence has been installed to protect six villages in the Ratnapura district and that a remaining portion of 30 kilometres is yet to be built. Accordingly, the committee had decided to construct the remainder of the fence this year.
