Colombo (News 1st); Venerable Uwatenne Sumana Thera who was sentenced to life imprisonment, was granted a Presidential Pardon, said Mohan Samaranayake, the Director General of the President’s Media Division on Sunday (03).
On the 01st of June 2020, the Chief incumbent of Sri Bodhirajaramaya in Maligawatte, Colombo was sentenced to life after he was found guilty for the illegal possession of 02 T-56 Assault Rifles and 210 rounds of live ammunition.
Colombo High Court Judge, Adithya Patabendige ruled the prosecution had proved beyond any reasonable doubt the thero was guilty of illegally possessing automatic weapons and ammunition.
The Police Special Task Force raised the temple on the 02nd of January 2010, days before the 2010 Presidential Election and thereafter the Criminal Investigations Department located the hidden weapons in the premises. –
