COLOMBO (News 1st): Two organized criminals arrested in Dubai, Bus Lalith alias “Lalith Kannangara” and “Wanathe Chathu,” are scheduled to be brought back to Sri Lanka on Monday (24th) night.
Police said that a team led by Senior Superintendent of Police Kamal Ariyawansa, Director of the Central Crime Investigation Bureau, along with officers from the State Intelligence Service and the Criminal Investigation Department, has already travelled to Dubai for this purpose on the instructions of the Inspector General of Police.
Bus Lalith was arrested in Dubai in November 2025.
He was arrested at an apartment complex in Dubai based on information revealed after a close associate of his, was arrested and questioned in Sri Lanka.
The arrest was carried out by a team led by Senior Superintendent of Police Kamal Ariyawansa, together with officers from the State Intelligence Service and the Criminal Investigation Department.
Efforts were later made to bring Bas Lalith back to Sri Lanka. However, he filed a case before a court in Dubai.
The Dubai court recently delivered its decision and ordered his deportation.
Police say, that Bus Lalith is a wanted suspect in connection to several murders, extortion cases and robberies reported in Sri Lanka.
Police said that Wanathe Chathu is said to be a close associate of organized criminal Kanjipani Imran.
Organized criminals “Alto Dharme” and “Konda Ranji” are also currently in custody in Dubai.
