Colombo (News 1st);  The Government has no plans on selling the East Container Terminal(ECT) of the Colombo Port, reaffirmed Minister of Ports & Shipping Rohitha Abeygunawardena on Wednesday(23). The ECT will be further developed into an economic hub in the future and discussions are currently underway with the Governments of India and Japan to connect with investors, he added. Trade unions continue to point out that the ECT of the Colombo Port can be developed through Sri Lanka's Ports Authority. ''The Government can develop the 160-meter area of the ECT with their own funds. The actual cost of the project will be lower than projections'', Chairman of the Sri Lanka Nidahas Sewaka Sangamaya said. 02 committees are currently studying the proposal to handover the East Container Terminal to India's Adhani Group and the current Memorandum of Corporation between India and Japan.
