COLOMBO (News 1st): Heavy showers exceeding 100 mm are likely in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa provinces and Galle and Matara districts after 2:30 pm today (Nov. 21), the Department of Meteorology said. The general public is requested to take precautions to minimize damages caused during thundershowers. Furthermore, the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at the Met Department on Friday night (Nov. 20) issued a Special Advisory for Formation of Low-Pressure Area, in the South Bay of Bengal sea areas. The advisory notes that a low-pressure area is likely to form over central parts of the South Bay of Bengal by 23rd November, and will intensify into a depression. Thereby, the Met Department advised naval and fishing communities not to venture into the North, East, and South-East deep and shallow seas off Sri Lanka's coast and South Bay of Bengal sea areas from Sunday (Nov. 22).
