MP Rishad Bathiudeen further remanded until 25th November

COLOMBO (News 1st): Fort Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage on Friday (Nov. 13) ordered MP Rishad Bathiudeen to be further remanded until the 25th of November. The bail application made on behalf of MP Bathiudeen was rejected today. In addition, the third suspect in the case, Alagarathnam Manoranjan, the Ex-Minister's accountant was also remanded until the 25th of November. Mohamed Yaseen Samsudeen, a Project Director at the Ministry of Resettlement who is the second suspect in the case, was released on two sureties worth Rs. 1 million each and a cash bond worth Rs. 100,000. Further, the Magistrate also placed a travel ban on the second suspect - Mohamed Yaseen Samsudeen. The trio are charged with Criminal Misappropriation of Public Funds to the tune of Rs. 9.5 Million and Violation of Election Laws with regard to the Transportation of IDPs in CTB buses to vote at the 2019 Presidential Election. Moreover, summons were issued on the Director of the Criminal Investigations Department to appear in person in court on the 25th of November, to present facts with regard to the failure to conduct an investigation as ordered, regarding several CID officials in civil attire who obstructed media from taking photographs and recording visuals when Rishad Bathiudeen was brought to the Fort Magistrate Court premises on the 20th of October.
