Parliamentary Council to meet for the first time

Parliamentary Council will meet for the 01st time on Wednesday

Colombo (News 1st);  The Parliamentary Council established via the 20th Amendment to the Constitution will meet for the first time on Wednesday (04) under the patronage of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.

The Communications Unit of Parliament said at the meeting at 04:00 PM the appointments to the Supreme Court will be discussed.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, the Prime Minister's nominee Minister Douglas Devananda and Opposition Leader's nominee Kabir Hashim will attend the meeting.

The Constitutional Council established via the 19th Amendment to the Constitution ceased to exist after the 20th Amendment to the Constitution became law.

Accordingly, the Parliamentary Council will make nominations and observations with regard to the appointment to all independent commissions in Sri Lanka.
