Colombo (News 1st); A decision was reached to provide an allowance of Rs. 5,000/- to eligible families who have not been quarantined in the Western Province.
A hamper with essential food items valued at Rs. 10,000/- will be provided to the residences of those who are infected with COVID-19 and their contacts, who are placed in quarantine.
The Presidential Task Force on Economic Revival and Poverty Alleviation met at Temple Trees on Monday (02) to discuss the relief process implemented for the benefit of the people following the rise in COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka.
It was highlighted at the meeting there is no intention of re-opening stores anytime soon and therefore the home delivery of essential goods will be carried out via the Co-Operatives in the local area.
Basil Rajapaksa, the Chair of the Presidential Task Force said measures are in place to ensure the continuous supply of water, electricity, fuel as well as gas.
He further said if the present situation in the country is not brought under control, it would take even longer to lift the restrictions which have been imposing.
Basil Rajapaksa also urged industries to operate their factories in order to prevent an economical collapse.
