AG questions CID Chief over delay in arresting Rishad Bathiudeen

Colombo (News 1st); Attorney General Dappula De Livera on Thursday (15) summoned the Deputy Inspector General of Police in-charge of the Criminal Investigations Department Prasad Ranasinghe to inquire over the delay in arresting Ex-Minister Rishad Bathiudeen.

The Attorney General had advised Sri Lanka Police to operate in a manner that protects the rule of law, said State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne the Coordinating Officer to the Attorney General.

Further, the Attorney General advised the CID to operate in a manner that ensures the public has faith in Sri Lanka Police adding the officer must not disregard the advice of the Attorney General and the orders given by the courts, she said.

The DIG in-charge of the CID was instructed to ensure those who assist those who are wanted by the court to go into hiding, are taken into custody and the Attorney General stressed: "Justice delayed is justice denied".
