COLOMBO (News 1st): A decision has been reached to issue driver's licenses under the categories of "Commercial" and "Non-Commercial" in the future, State Ministry of Vehicle Regulation said. "Under the current system of issuing licenses, the health conditions that should be met by a driver of a small vehicle are same as the health conditions required by a freight container driver," Dilum Amunugama, the State Minister of Vehicle Regulation, Bus Transport Services, and Train Compartments and Motor Car Industry said. Thereby, the Minister said a "Commercial" driver's license will be issued for those engaged in driving by profession and a "Non-Commercial" license for other drivers. Minister Amunugama said at the point of issuance of a new license, it will contain 100 points and every time a driver breaks a rule, a set number of points according to the offence, will be deducted. "Once the total points reach ZERO, the license will become invalid," the State Minister noted.
