Party Secretaries must submit National List nominations within a week: NEC

COLOMBO(News 1st): The National Elections Commission has instructed party secretaries to submit names for the national list within the next 7 days. The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, which won a landslide victory in the general election this time, has won 17 National List seats. Seven National List seats were won by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya. The Jathika Jana Balavegaya, the Illankai Tamil Arasu Katchi, the Ahila Illankai Tamil Congress, Ape Janabala Party, and the United National Party each won one National List seat. The SLPP handed over the list of National List MPs to the Election Commission yesterday. Steps will be taken to issue a gazette notification with the list of members elected to Parliament in the 2020 General Elections, the NEC added. It was in the final stages of obtaining the names of elected members at the district levels, the NEC further added.
