Ethnic Group of the parents to be included in new "National Birth Certificate"

Colombo (News 1st); The Registrar General's Department has issued a clarification regarding the new birth certificates.

The clarification notes, instead of the term "Birth Certificate", the new birth certificates will be introduced as "National Birth Certificates".

The new birth certificates will be issued bilingually and will include a unique identification code.

Printed digitally on a unique paper, the National Birth Certificate includes a quick response code, a code number, a watermark, and a hologram sticker.

All such birth certificates will bear the signature of the Registrar General.

The statement issued by the Registrar General's Department also added the section "Are Parents Married?" that is prejudicial to some children has been removed.

The statement also added that in addition to "race", the race / ethnic group of the parents is also included.

The statement further highlighted The National Birth Certificate has not yet been made public and is planned to be issued upon completion of the relevant procedures.
