Colombo (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police said investigations have not revealed the Police Special Task Force was involved in the drug trafficking operation carried out by a group of personnel at the Police Narcotic Bureau.
Police Spokesperson SSP Jaliya Senaratne said the Criminal Investigations Department is conducting a special probe on the matter.
He said Acting Inspector General of Police C. D. Wickremeratne had instructed to commence investigations if allegations are raise claiming another branch of Sri Lanka Police or an affiliated institution is involved in the drug trafficking operation.
The Police Spokesperson added, the Commandant of the Police Special Task Force (STF) DIG Waruna Jayasundara had written to the Acting IGP seeking an investigation be launched into claims made that Police STF personnel provided protection to the PNB officers involved in drug trafficking.
13 Police Narcotic Bureau Officers arrested for trafficking drugs were remanded until the 04th of August by court recently.
