Nearly Rs. 1.7 Million Damage Assessed to Railway System Due to the Wanawasala Train Accident

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka Railways says that the Wanawasala train accident has caused nearly Rs. 1.7 million of damage to the railway system.

The Railway Track and Engineering Sub-Department says that nearly 200 feet of railway tracks, sleepers, and other railway line components were damaged due to the accident.

The Department further stated that the damaged sections have now been repaired.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Railways noted that assessments are currently being carried out on the damage caused to the railway signaling system and train compartments.

Accordingly, the department said that the total damage assessment including the damage to the track system as well as the signaling system and train carriages will be submitted to the Ministry of Transport and Highways within the upcoming few days.
