Kurunegala MC prohibits entry to demolished archaeological site

Colombo (News 1st); The Attorney General's Department obtained a court order from the Kurunegala Magistrate's Court to Protect and Prevent access to the demolished building in Kurunegala with an archaeological value, pending investigations.

State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne, the Co-ordinating Officer to the Attorney General said the AGs Department was represented by a Senior State Counsel in court where multiple requests were made from Kurunegala Magistrate A. D. C. S. Hewawasam with regard to the damages caused to a building identified as an ancient Kings Assembly Hall.

She said a Prevention Order was obtained from the Kurunegala Magistrate against the Kurunegala Mayor, Deputy Mayor Municipal Councilors, Municipal Commissioner & Engineer, Municipal Council Staff & their Representatives prohibiting them from entering the premises, pending the investigations.

She added the Magistrate's Court directed the order in writing to the Mayor of Kurunegala.
