PHIs withdraw from preventive activities of all communicable diseases

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Public Health Inspectors' Union of Sri Lanka have decided to withdraw from all prevention measures of communicable diseases including Dengue and Leptospirosis. The PHI Union stepped away from all COVID-19 control duties with effect from Friday (July 17), as a mark of protest over a statement made by Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi. "The containment, inspection and recording of all communicable diseases in the country are conducted under the provisions of the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance," Upul Rohana, the Chairman of the PHI Union told News 1st on Sunday (July 19). He noted, with the strike action containment measures of communicable diseases have also been hampered.
