Key suspect in Thajudeen homicide case dead; another seriously ill

Colombo (News 1st); One of the key suspects in the Wasim Thajudeen homicide case, Ex-Chief Judicial Medical Officer of Colombo Professor Ananda Samarasekara is dead, reported the Attorney General's Department to the Colombo Additional Magistrate on Thursday.

Deputy Solicitor General Dilan Ratnayake appearing for the Attorney General also noted Ex-Senior DIG Anura Senanayake, another suspect in the case, is seriously ill and is receiving treatment in hospital.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Kalani Perera ordered the Criminal Investigations Department to present facts on the 19th of November with regard to Ex-Chief Judicial Medical Officer of Colombo Professor Ananda Samarasekara and Ex-Senior DIG Anura Senanayake, over the Wasim Thajudeen homicide.

Ordering for the matter to be called up again on the 19th of November, the Additional Magistrate noted the progress of the investigations must be reported to court on that day.

The charred remains of the late Wasim Thajudeen were discovered inside a burnt car opposite the Shalika Grounds in Narahenpita on the 17th of May 2012.

The death was first ruled as an accident and thereafter when the Criminal Investigations Department probed the matter it was determined the death was in fact murder and the Magistrate's Court ordered police to arrest the suspects.
