Inquiry in to Angulana shooting; Three-wheeler driver shot dead for hurling a stone at Police

Colombo (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police launched an investigation into the shooting dead of a person in Angulana, Moratuwa during the early hours of Saturday(11).

A 39 year old male was shot dead by police during an altercation in Lunawa, Angulana a locality in Moratuwa at 12:30 AM.

Police said the incident took place when a group in a three-wheeler were subject to a search at a Police Road Block in the said area.

While vehicles were being checked a three-wheel driver, who was under the influence of alcohol, had thrown a stone at a Police Officer, Police Media Spokesperson SSP Jaliya Senaratne said.

Thereafter the Police officer had opened fire at the man who sustained injuries and subsequently died upon admission to the Kalubowila Hospital.

Senior DIG for the Western Province Deshabandu Tennakoon speaking to News 1st, if the police officers are guilty of using excessive force, strict action will be taken against them.
