COLOMBO (News 1st): The Court of Appeal on Tuesday (June 16), postponed the consideration of the revision applications filed by Chairman of Avant-Garde Maritime Services – Major Nissanka Senadhipathi and Retired Major Palitha Fernando, to the 8th of July.
The revision application was taken up before Justices Kumudini Wickremasinghe and Devika Abeyratne, on Tuesday.
The duo had filed the revision application requesting that an order be issued suspending the decision reached by the Colombo High Court; to take up the case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption against them, rejecting the initial objection filed by their lawyers.
The attorneys-at-law representing Nissanka Senadhipathi and Palitha Fernando earlier requested Colombo High Court to declare the case as illegal; as it was filed without the written approval of both commissioners at the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery.
However, Colombo High Court Judge, Champa Janaki Rajaratne rejected this initial objection and ordered the case to proceed.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption filed the case at the Colombo High Court, against Avant-Garde Chairman – Major Nissanka Senadhipathi and Retired Major Palitha Fernando over soliciting a bribe of Rs. 35.5 million in order to grant approval for Avant-Garde Maritime Services, to maintain a floating armoury.
