Colombo (News 1st)  30 Sri Lankan Multi-Day fishing vessels are drifting towards Indonesia after they were caught in a strong current in the seas off Sri Lanka.

These fishing vessels had left for sea from the Trincomalee and Kudawella Fisheries Harbours.

Assistant Director of the Department of Fisheries Pathmapriya Tissera speaking to News 1st said the vessels are carrying a combined crew of 150 fishermen.

He said the fishing vessels were caught in strong currents due to the Cyclone Amphan, one of the worst storms over the Bay of Bengal in years, which is making landfall in West Bengal.

The Fisheries Department Official said the Sri Lankan fishermen are out of harm’s way and there were no casualties.

He added Sri Lankan authorities are maintaining communication with the vessels.
