FR cases on Election date to be taken up today

Seven Fundamental Rights Petitions filed challenging the decision taken by the Elections Commission to be held today

Seven Fundamental Rights Petitions filed by several individuals challenging the decision taken by the Elections Commission to hold the General Election on the 20th of June is to be called up to today, to decide whether or not to take them up for consideration. The five-judge bench comprises of Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya and Justices Buwaneka Aluvihare, Sisira De Abrew, Priyantha Jayawardena and Vijith Malalgoda. Attorney-at-law Charitha Gunaratne, Dr. Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu of the Centre for Policy Alternatives (CPA), journalist Victor Ivan along with seven others, and Ranjith Madduma Bandara of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), and former MPS Kumara Welgama and Champika Ranawaka have filed the fundamental rights petitions.
