COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Election Commission following a meeting between its members met with the secretaries of political parties which would be contesting the general election today.
The discussion revolved around matters concerning the date of the general election.
A final decision had not been reached on the date of election during the discussion which lasted for about two hours.
“The Election Commission said that they cannot decide on this now and that they would make a decision within 2 weeks based on the situation in the country,” Candidate of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Mahindananda Aluthgamage said.
General Secretary of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya Ranjith Madduma Bandara said 90% of the parties were of the view that the election should not be held.
