SriLankan Airlines' scheduled flight suspension extended till May 15

SriLankan Airlines on Saturday said it was compelled to extend the temporary suspension of its scheduled passenger flights till 15th May 2020 due to the global lockdowns grounded worldwide air crafts. Sri Lankan Airlines in a statement said the travel restrictions imposed by the countries in the global network continue to be in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As of now the global number of confirmed COVID-19 cases have increased more than 2,800,000, while more than 197,000 reported deaths so far. The Airlines’ cargo services will continue to operate from its worldwide network. “Facilitating essential supplies of medical resources, equipment as well as perishable cargo in support of governments and industries during this tumultuous period - bringing in vital revenue for the airline and foreign exchange into the country will continue,” the airline said. SriLankan Airlines added that they will operate special passenger flights as and when required, in order to continue to reach out to fellow Sri Lankans in need.
