COLOMBO (News1st): Health authorities have confirmed that a circular has not been issued to suspend surgeries at hospitals in the backdrop of the COVID – 19 pandemic.

Surgeries including treatment for cancer patients will not be suspended under any circumstances, Dr. Anil Jasinghe, director-general of health services, said in a statement.

He noted that other services provided by hospitals could slow down due to the less number of staffers who are at work.

The director-general added that hospitals have been informed that they can postpone surgeries if it does not pose a risk to the health condition of a patient.
