COLOMBO (News1st): A local distillery has used one of its arrack products to produce hand sanitizers for hospitals dealing with the outbreak of COVID – 19.

“…we decided to use the alcohol from our distillery to make medical hand grade sanitizer to (be) distributed free of charge,” the distillery said in a post on Facebook.

The sanitizers had been produced under the supervision of the Excise Department and had been handed over to the IDH and the National Hospital in Colombo, the post read.

“More will be delivered to other facilities over the next few days.”

The distillery, in the labels of its sanitizer bottles, which contain a 70 percent concentration of liquor, noted that the product was not for consumption.
