COLOMBO (News1st): More than 1700 curfew violators were arrested during the last 24 hours ending at 6 am on Thursday, police said, despite issuing warnings that strict action would be taken against offenders.
"We have decided to toughen the legal action being taken against curfew violators," DIG Ajith Rohana, who heads the motor traffic range said on Wednesday.
Police statistics show that the number of arrests since March 20 stands at 19,441 since curfew restrictions were imposed due to COVID - 19.
According to the police, 496 vehicles were also seized over the last 24 hours, bringing the tally of the total vehicles seized since March 20 upto 5082.
