COLOMBO (News 1st) - The National Medicines Regulatory Authority states operations are underway to arrest those who are stockpiling and selling face masks at higher prices.

The government imposed a controlled price of 50 per face mask. A maximum retail price of 325 rupees, has been imposed for face masks used for surgery, health insurance and the medical field. Chief Executive Officer of The National Medicines Regulatory Authority, Dr. Kamal Jayasinghe said the licences of pharmacies that sell face masks above the controlled prices, will be cancelled. Meanwhile, other tariffs including the taxes imposed on imported face masks, will be lifted with effect from today (March 19). The Finance Ministry said these imported goods will now come under the Special Commodity Levy Act.
