4 arrested for impersonating CID officers and extortion

Colombo (News 1st) - 4 persons who impersonated CID officers and attempted to extort money from a woman, were arrested in the Malwathuhiripitiya area. According to the Police, the suspects had informed the victim in question that she had death threats against her and that the only way she will receive protection is if she pays Rs 100,00. The suspects were taken into custody after the victim lodged a complaint with the Gampaha Police Division's CID unit. The arrested suspects have been identified as residents of Balangoda, Attanagalle, Gampaha and Weathuregama. They are due to be presented before the Gampaha magistrate's court.
