Colombo (News 1st) - President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said it is wise for the legislature to act towards the betterment of the country casting aside party differences. " When Independent Commissions are appointed, they in fact need to be independent in nature," said the President, adding sadly, one member of the Independent Elections Commission wrote columns which were bias during the run-up to the election. If such events take place, according to the President, such bodies cannot be termed as Independent. He said such instances result in the breach of public trust adding when public trust is lost, there is no point in doing anything positive afterward. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa also went on to note sadly he is now compelled to focus on the demonstrations taking place daily rather than paying attention to policy-based matters. He said as President it is important to work towards an efficient government mechanism and stressed he would take necessary measures to enforce the recommendations produced by various committees in their respective reports.
