Colombo (News 1st): Matters concerning the submission of Ranjan Ramanayake's audio tapes were discussed in Parliament today.
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya: In keeping with the requests made by MPs and the agreement made at the party leaders meeting, I wish to inform you that 19 conversations are suitable to be released to the Parliament after being censored. I wish to reiterate that this decision should not be used as an example of parliamentary matters in the future.
Minister Wimal Weerawansa: Which portions of the recordings were censored? Was it based on political favoritism?
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya: It was not based on political affiliations. It was done based on the language used in the conversations
MP Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe: The recordings of the conversations which you spoke about consist of profanity and gossip between a parliamentarian and certain individuals.
