Investigations Continue Into Death Of Former IGP C.D. Wickramaratne

COLOMBO (News 1st): The remains of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickramaratne have been sent to the Government Analyst for further investigations.

Police said the former IGP’s mobile phone has been taken into custody and will be examined after obtaining the necessary court orders.

The firearm allegedly used by C.D. Wickramaratne has also been taken into police custody and is due to be sent for further examination.

Statements have been recorded from his wife and three security officers in connection with his death.

Former IGP C.D. Wickramaratne died last morning after sustaining a gunshot injury to the head at his residence in Thalahena. He was 63 years old at the time of his passing.

Police said his final rites will be held at the Borella Cemetery next Monday, while his remains will be kept at a private funeral parlour in Borella from tomorrow.

Meanwhile, on the instructions of IGP Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Weerasooriya, investigations are being conducted by the Western South Special Investigation Unit and the Malabe Police.
