COLOMBO (News 1st) - The National Dengue Control Unit says that dengue larvae have been found in school premises the most during inspections conducted this year.

Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, said that mosquito breeding sites have also been identified in factories, government institutions, and other public places.

More than 75,000 dengue cases have been reported in the country so far this year.

52.7% of the total cases have been reported from the Western Province.

The National Dengue Control Unit also stated that 70% of dengue-related deaths reported in Sri Lanka are women.

37 of the dengue deaths were women.

Acting Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, urged women in particular to seek medical treatment immediately if there are symptoms.

The Unit stated that many dengue deaths have occurred because patients sought treatment too late.

It also said that the highest number of dengue deaths has been reported among those aged between 25 and 49 years, as well as those over 65 years of age.

Five children are also among the reported dengue deaths.

The total number of dengue-related deaths reported in the country so far has risen to 53.
