Colombo (News 1st) – In an unprecedented day for diplomacy and geopolitics, three of the worlds Super-Powers sent high representation to Sri Lanka in an effort to push forward their geopolitical agenda as President Gotabhaya Rajapakse saddles up in preparation for his first term, leading up to a General Election in April.
In a short space of a day, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and US Principal Deputy Assistant Sec. of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Alice Wells made official calls in Colombo, with the Russian Foreign Minister going as far as holding a Press Conference.
Meanwhile, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa met with a Japanese delegation headed by State Minister for Regional Revitalization Kozo Yamamoto on Monday (Jan 13).
Analysts believe this is a clear indication of Sri Lanka’s importance as a strategic geopolitical hub, but also warn of the dangers associated with such a position.
