650 vendors sued for selling over priced rice

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Consumer Affairs Authority has taken legal action against more than 650 vendors for selling Samba and Nadu rice above the maximum retail price. The authority has carried out more than 18,000 raids to-date. The maximum retail price for Samba and Nadu rice is Rs. 98 per kilogram. Accordingly, the Consumer Affairs Authority stated that continuous raids have been launched to apprehend vendors selling Samba and Nadu rice over the prescribed price. The CAA further stated that information about sellers of Samba and Nadu rice exceeding the maximum retail price can be reported to the 1977 hotline or to any District Office of the Consumer Affairs Authority.
