Colombo (News 1st): During a meeting chaired by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday (December 13), it was revealed, many MoUs in relation to the energy sector that were signed with foreign countries during the past few years, where agreements were with private companies and not with governments.
A meeting between President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and senior officials of the Ministry of Power and Energy and institutions under its purview was held at the Presidential Secretariat.
During the meeting, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa highlighted the importance of conducting a feasibility study prior to the commencement of new power projects.
The President's media division said officials of the ministry have extended their support to the proposals presented through the President's manifesto.
During the meeting, the President highlighted the importance of attracting investors for new projects through appraising foreign countries on the policies of the Sri Lankan government in order to meet the increasing demand for electricity in the country as well as following proper procurement procedures.
Therefore, the President pointed out the importance of conducting a proper study when implementing these agreements to ensure there would be no adverse impact on the country.
