Interim injunction on Death penalty further extended

Colombo (News 1st): The Supreme Court today (December 9) further extended the Interim Injunction Order preventing the implementation of the Death Penalty, to the 20th of March 2020. Today, the Fundamental Rights Application filed challenging the decision taken by Former President Maitripala Sirisena to carry out the death sentence on those convicted and sentenced to death for drug trafficking offenses, was taken up and it was decided that the case would be considered on the 17th, 18th and 19th of March 2020. The matter was called up in the presence of Supreme Court Justices Vijith Malalgoda, S. Thurairajah, and Gamini Amarasekera.
