Colombo (News 1st): Bandula Gunawardena who was appointed as the Minister of Information and Communications Technology assumed his duties today (November 26). Minister Bandula Gunawardena assumed his duties at the Ministry of Mass Media amidst multi-religious rites.
Bandula Gunawardena: Clearly this Government did not come into power with the help of state media. But we will allow state media institutions to give air time for the affairs of the opposition. That will be the major change we will do. Therefore we are not hoping to embark on a media witch hunt. Journalist: It has been 10 years since the murder of Lasantha Wickrematunga. Still, it has not been probed in to and the responsible people have not been produced before the law. Can you get involved in this? Bandula Gunawardena: The murder culture of our country can be read. I wrote a book on that named "Sudu Van Sanskruthiya also known as Shishtathvayata Erehi Ashishtathvaya." It contains the names and information on the murders carried out during the 1989 time period. The eradication of that murder culture which prevailed for 30 years started from the dawn of the Rajapaksa era.
