COLOMBO(News 1st) – The National Election Commission has decided to extend the period to cast the vote at the Presidential Election. The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Commission Mahinda Deshapriya.

JVP MP Bimal Ratnayake noted that the commission decided to extend the polling time period from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm due to the length of the election paper in this election.
He added that the commission also agreed to summon media organizations that act in a biased manner towards presidential candidates however they have failed to practise this exercise. MP said that they questioned it today (October 29).
Journalist: Some of your seniors criticized you. They were disappointed in political life. What do you have to say about that?
MP refrained from answering this question and added that everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Basil Rajapaksa, National Organizer to the SLPP confirmed the extension and stated that their candidate is more than ready to be president after November 17th.
Journalist: Prime Minister says that a new constitution will be introduced.
Basil Rajapaksa responded that the PM had enough and more time for all of that and he is now starting to do all these at the last minute.
Ajith P. Perera, Non-Cabinet Minister of Digital Infrastructure & Information Technology:
“Seven Supreme Court judges gave a verdict following the coup on October 26th. They gave a verdict on when to dissolve the parliament. But, disregarding the verdict given by the court, a certain political party has mentioned facts about this in their manifesto.”
Journalist: How’s the presidential candidate?
MP responded that they would definitely win and the PM’s decision for a new constitution would not affect them as they would draft a constitution. He added that Gotabaya Rajapaksa has also said in his manifesto that a new constitution will be drafted.
In addition, the MP assured that the manifesto of their candidate is not late and it would be unveiled at the auspicious time (October 31).
