Sri Lanka officials request Indian government to release 24 fishermen

COLOMBO (News 1st):- The Department of Fisheries and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have requested the Indian government to release the 24 Sri Lanka fishermen who are currently under the custody of the Indian security forces before the upcoming Deepawali festival. The arrested group includes 18 fishermen who fared out to sea from Jaffna and six from Matara. Director of the Operations Division of the Department of Fisheries, Kalyani Hewapathirana says that nine fishing trawlers are also currently under the custody of the Indian security forces.
