COLOMBO (News 1st) - Today marks the 18th day of the protest by the injured war veterans. UNP Presidential Election Candidate, Minister Sajith Premadasa visited the veterans today to inquire into their well-being. Minister Sajith Premadasa spoke with the injured veterans on their issues. Speaking to the media minister Premadasa noted that he had come to look into the plight of the veterans adding that he was someone who had helped veterans by providing plots of lands free of charge and also helping them to construct homes. The minister added that he hopes to work on behalf of the veterans and that he would not implement policies adopted by the previous government which gave homes and lands to veterans at a cost of Rs 800 000. He finally added that he would present their demands to the Cabinet Minister and return with a response. Meanwhile, Presidential Candidate of the Janasetha Peramuna, Venerable Battaramulle Seelarathana Thero visited the veterans last night. The venerable thero engaged in religious observances with the veterans.
