Colombo (News 1st): The Pulathisi Intercity train service from Colombo Fort to Polonnaruwa completed its inaugural run today (September 11) under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena. Pulathisi Intercity train is an S-13 Grade, luxury train.
President Maithripala Sirisena joined the inaugural journey and travelled from Fort to Maradana. Among those present were Minister Arjuna Ranatunga, State Minister Ashok Abeysinghe and the Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka.
The Pulathisi Intercity train will start its journey from Fort Station daily at 3.00 pm and will reach Polonnaruwa Railway Station at 7.45 pm. The return journey starts at 3.45 am and will reach Colombo Fort by 9.06 am.
Speaking at the event President Sirisena noted that he is pleased to witness the operation of a passenger train from Colombo Fort to Polonnaruwa. He added that the train service is the most convenient mode of travel for the people rather than travelling in a vehicle. The president noted that this is a mode where the passengers can travel more comfortably. He went onto note that since the train travels from Fort to Polonnaruwa, from next week, he too plans on using the train to travel to Polonnaruwa.
