COLOMBO (News 1st):- The Youth Volunteer Service of Sri Lanka was launched at Temple Trees today (August 17). The event was held under the auspices of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. This event which was held in line with International Youth Day was themed as ''Yuthukama" or Responsibility. The Sri Lankan National Youth Volunteer Service was officially launched by the Prime Minister during the event. At the event, the Chairman of the National Youth Services Council, Attorney-at-law Eranda Welianga said that this will be his last day as the Chairman of the council and that he holds no regrets as he has spearheaded massive programs. Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe questioned if the people really think that this country could not be developed because of politics since even he thinks that there should be a change in the current system. The Prime Minister then went onto appoint a committee headed by a person named Shehan who was present at the event while stating that he was given the opportunity because he was unemployed. He further told everyone gathered at the event to come and submit their ideas to Shehan as to why this country cannot be developed within the coming weeks. While the Prime Minister of this country invites youth to the Temple Trees and merely humiliates them, the youth of this nation is puzzled and ridiculed. He does not seem to have acted honestly before thousands of issues the youth face including unemployment, issues in the university system and education. These students who at certain instances took to the streets to voice against the unjust they face were only answered back with tear gas. This is why you leave the country only to be slaves in foreign nations hoping for a better future.
