700kg of low-quality polythene discovered in Matale warehouse

COLOMBO (News 1st):- A heap of low-quality polythene has been discovered from a warehouse in Matale. Director of the Investigations Unit of the Central Environmental Authority (CEA), N. S. Gamage states that 700kg of polythene which was used for the purpose of food packaging was seized from the warehouse. The Director said that cases were filed at the Matale Magistrate Courts against the suspects who had planned to destroy the ton of garbage at the Dompe garbage dump. The raid was conducted together with the Consumer Affairs Authority. Meanwhile, the Director of the CEA further said that in over 5300 islandwide raids conducted within the past seven months that a total exceeding 7 tonnes of low-quality polythene was discovered.
