Six dead in Mirigama: Case of liquor poisoning?

COLOMBO (News 1st): In an incident reported from Baduragoda, Mirigama six people were reported dead after consuming illicit liquor from the same place. News 1st correspondent confirmed that eight people were also reportedly admitted to the Mirigama Base hospital over the same cause. The victims were hospitalized on August 1st after they were all found to be sick. The area residents state that five out of the hospitalized individuals had died. The body of another 52-year-old individual of Mirigama who also consumed liquor from the same place was found lying in a land in Wattemulla. The five other deceased people are residents of Poththewela and Baduragoda. Post mortem examinations of some of the victims were conducted yesterday (August 2). Meanwhile, one other person who was receiving treatment at the Mirigama hospital was transferred to the Wathupitiwala hospital due to his critical condition. When News 1st inquired regarding the matter, the police said that there are no conclusions through the post-mortems that the deaths were caused due to the poisoning due to the consumption of the illicit liquor.
