Colombo (News1st) - The Sri Lanka Navy has apprehended 18 persons who had been engaged in illegal fishing activities. The suspects were arrested in the seas off Trincomalee and Upparu.
The Navy noted that 14 of them were arrested by their patrols for using illegal fishing nets. 4 dingies were also taken into custody, further investigation revealed that 2 of the arrested dingies had the same registration numbers. The navy also took into custody 2 illegal fishing nets and a total of 519kg of fish.
The 4 others were arrested along with 261kg of fish and illegal fishing equipment.
