Fort Protest Against 22A Sees Unusual Political Gatherings & Social Media Moments

COLOMBO (News 1st): A protest against the proposed 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, which the Government says is aimed at expediting court proceedings and improving judicial efficiency, was held in Colombo by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and several other political groups.

The demonstration took place in front of the Fort Railway Station, drawing the participation of opposition politicians, party activists and supporters who voiced their objections to the proposed constitutional reform.

Protesters gathered carrying placards and banners while expressing concerns over the amendment.

The event also saw the participation of representatives of the United National Party (UNP) and other groups, including individuals who are currently on bail.

Interestingly, alongside the protest slogans and speeches, attendees were also seen greeting one another, posing for photographs and taking selfies, creating moments that contrasted with the serious political message being delivered from the stage.
